Blackwater River and Little Wyvis

Things to do

There are plenty of walks in the Garve area, with a pretty short circular walk starting right from the door and taking in the Blackwater river behind the cottage. In and around Garve there are lots of opportunities to spot wildlife. For the more adventurous the Torridon Hills, Glen Affric, The Fannichs and not forgetting Ben Wyvis are all on the door step.

Corrieshalloch Gorge and Cul Mor from Stac Pollaidh Slightly further afield but not to be missed are the unique Hills of Assynt & Coigach here you will find Stac Pollaidh, one of Scotland’s most distinctive peaks described by some as “a real mountain in miniature” and is deservedly popular.

Another must is a visit to the breathtaking Corrieshalloch Gorge, over 200ft deep, here the river Dorma plunges 150ft over the falls of Measach. Two of the locals!A suspension bridge takes you across the gorge to a viewing platform where the sheer magnitude of the gorge can be experienced, not for the faint hearted!

After all that walking why not take the train from Garve station and experience one of Scotland’s most spectacular train journeys to the Kyle of Lochalsh. Sit back and relax as the route winds it way through stunning scenery.

Stalking and fishing are also available nearby.

Strathpeffer Pavillion and Inverness castle

Less than 10 miles away is the beautiful Victorian spa town of Strathpeffer with its original spa pavilion and 18 hole golf course whose claim to fame is the longest drop from tee to green on any course in Scotland. Further a field is the market town of Dingwall and Inverness, the Highland Capital.

And not forgetting our whisky distilleries and local breweries which are too numerous to mention but a definite must to visit before you go home.

At the end of day you can relax back at the cottage and watch the sun set or for those who don’t want the day to end stroll down to the hotel bar and enjoy a wee dram whilst watching the nightly entertainment.
